Management of Pulmonary Hypertension in Patients on Left Ventricular Assist Device Support
نویسندگان
چکیده
Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are increasingly utilized for patients with end-stage heart failure (HF). Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is highly prevalent in this patient population mainly due to prolonged left (LV) and chronically elevated filling pressures. The effect of LVADs on pulmonary circulation right (RV) function has recently become an area great attention literature. PH can lead post-LVAD (RVF) that confers a high risk morbidity mortality. Multiple vasodilators, primarily used the treatment arterial (PAH), have been studied after LVAD implantation, some them shown promising results. This review aims investigate options LVADs, as well give overview about pathophysiology RVF these patients.

Reversibility of fixed pulmonary hypertension in left ventricular assist device support recipients.
OBJECTIVE Conflicting data still exist concerning the reversibility of secondary severe 'fixed' pulmonary hypertension (PH) by the use of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support in terms of time necessary to provide a bridge to 'transplantability'. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 145 patients with heart failure and severe PH treated by LVAD support between 2000 and 2009. There were ...
متن کاملImprovement of Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) in Artificial Heart Using Particle Swarm Optimization
In this approach, the Left ventricular assist pump for patients with left ventricular failure isused. The failure of the left ventricle is the most common heart disease during these days. Inthis article, a State feedback controller method is used to optimize the efficiency of a samplingpump current. Particle Swarm Algorithm, which is a set of rules to update the position andvelocity, is applied...
متن کاملRegression of cellular hypertrophy after left ventricular assist device support.
BACKGROUND Although multiple studies have shown that the left ventricular assist device (LVAD) improves distorted cardiac geometry, the pathological mechanisms of the "reverse remodeling" of the heart are unknown. Our goal was to determine the effects of LVAD support on cardiac myocyte size and shape. METHODS AND RESULTS Isolated myocytes were obtained at cardiac transplantation from 30 faili...
متن کاملQuality of life and left ventricular assist device support.
More than 5 million Americans are living with heart failure, with an additional 500 000 cases diagnosed each year.1 Ongoing improvements in patient management will only increase the number of patients surviving to develop severe refractory heart failure (stage D). Approximately 5% to 10% of all heart failure patients are classified as stage D and defined as patients who continue to have symptom...
متن کاملFungemia associated with left ventricular assist device support.
OBJECTIVE Infections remain an important complication of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support. While relatively uncommon, fungal infections present a serious concern given a high association with adverse events including death. We sought to further characterize the epidemiology of fungemias during LVAD support. METHODS Retrospective review of 292 patients receiving LVAD support from ...
